PHOENIX -- It was a classic finish that will go into the Orlando Magic's archives.
Here they were Tuesday night, down by eight points with less than two minutes to play against the Portland Trail Blazers, who had yet to lose at home this season. David Blaine couldn't escape this predicament.
"With two minutes left," Coach Stan Van Gundy conceded, "it doesn't look good."
What could you possibly expect the Magic to do?
Score nine unanswered points on three consecutive 3-pointers to win by a point at the buzzer? Something crazy like that?
Well, that's exactly what happened in "The Miracle At The Rose Garden."
On a night when Dwight Howard struggled because of a strained oblique muscle -- he expects to play Friday -- the Magic refused to concede the night.
A sellout crowd of 20,642 sat stunned as Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu not only hit the game-winner, but banked in the 3-pointer with .3 seconds left.
Turkoglu's long shot capped a furious comeback to give the Magic an 109-108 victory. Did he even call "bank" before it left his hands, which is Basketball etiquette?
"On the way back, I was," laughed Turkoglu. "I'm just happy it went in." The Magic (17-5), who began a five-game West trip by beating the L.A. Clippers Monday night, added to their impressive road r?sum?. They are 8-2 this season, building on a club-record 27 road victories set last season.
The Magic are 35-16 since last season in road games, topped at this point only by the Boston Celtics (39-11).
Orlando faces the Phoenix Suns on Friday at U.S. Airways Center.
"We've proven through last year and one quarter of a season that we're a good road team," point guard Jameer Nelson said. "Nobody really gets flustered or loses focus."
LaMarcus Aldridge's jumper gave the Blazers an 108-100 lead with two minutes, 21 seconds left.
Nelson then drilled a 3-pointer with 1:57 left. Keith Bogans missed a 3, chased down his miss and passed to Rashard Lewis. Lewis nailed a 3 to cut it to 108-106.
The Magic trapped star Brandon Roy, and got stops. Then Aldridge's basket was waved off with five seconds left because it didn't beat the shot clock, setting up Turkoglu's heroics.
"We kept fighting really hard to give ourselves a chance to throw one in at the end instead of just letting it go," Van Gundy said. "With two minutes left, it doesn't look good. We shut them out the rest of the way and gave ourselves a chance."
