After four days of uncertainty, Hawks guard Mike Bibby started against the Magic, even with a sprained left ankle. Bibby sustained the injury against New Orleans on Saturday and was uncertain to play leading up to Thursday, sitting out practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Bibby decided to play after the team's morning shootaround. With his start, the Hawks maintained their perfect record with injuries. The team has yet to have a player miss a game because of injury this season. Bibby had undergone two hours daily of treatment that consisted of ice and electrical stimulation.
Bibby appeared to be slightly favoring the ankle, but played 16 minutes through the first half.
No rest for weary
For the second time this season, the Magic played the second game of a back-to-back against a team coming off four days' rest. The first was Cleveland, which beat the Magic 102-93 earlier in the month. Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy lamented that such a matchup might occur three times in an entire NBA season, and his team already had faced it twice.
"If I was a college coach, I could schedule my own game, and that wouldn't happen," Van Gundy said. "In fact, we'd be playing, like, Glenville State or something like that."
Etc.
The Hawks held the Magic to 39 points in the first half, a season low for Hawks opponents and Orlando. The Magic shot 37.5 percent from the field.
Among the celebrities at Philips Arena on Thursday night: "Real Housewives of Atlanta" cast member Kandi Burruss, who sang the national anthem; hip-hop stars Young Jeezy; Daryl McDaniels from Run DMC; hip-hop star The Dream and actor Chris Tucker.
