Cable chief to market UF
The top executive in Florida for the Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida cable-television networks is leaving her post to oversee the marketing and media rights of University of Florida Athletics on behalf of Sun Sports.

Cathy Weeden, currently the senior vice president and general manager in Orlando of Fox Sports Florida and Sun Sports, will become general manager of Gator Sports Marketing, a division of IMG College, part of the global sports-and-entertainment company IMG.

In her new role, Weeden will be responsible for all aspects of the sales rights, including TV, radio, Internet and corporate partnerships, according to a written statement from Fox Sports Networks. Earlier this year, UF and Sun Sports signed an exclusive multimedia and sponsorship rights agreement, and Fox Sports Networks, which owns Sun Sports, brought in IMG College to help manage the UF rights.

Weeden will continue in her current jobs until early next year, according to Fox Sports Networks. Then she will be replaced by Steve Liverani, senior vice president and general manager of Fox Sports Ohio.

Weeden originally joined Sun Sports in 1990 and helped negotiate the network's first agreement with UF in 1996.

She is involved in negotiations between the Orlando Magic and Bright House Networks over the broadcast of Magic games. Cable-TV provider Bright House doesn't carry cable channel FSN Florida, which shows about half of the Magic's games, with the other half on Sun Sports.
