Magic
NOTEBOOK ORLANDO, Fla. - Looking for more backcourt production, the Magic are expected to return rookie shooting guard Courtney Lee to his starting role for Game 5 in Boston tonight.
Lee became the starter in the second half of the season, and stayed one until he suffered a fractured sinus cavity in Game 5 of Orlando's first-round series against Philadelphia. After missing three games, Lee was used in a reserve role in Games 3 and 4 against the Celtics .
Making his third straight start, J.J. Redick scored just 2 points on 1-of-7 shooting Sunday night. Lee had 8 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Starting point guard Rafer Alston also struggled with his shot (1 of 7, 5 points) and was unable to slow Celtics counterpart Rajon Rondo. If Alston struggles again tonight, expect the Magic to use backup Anthony Johnson more than the 11 minutes he played in Game 4.
Glory road
Relinquishing home-court advantage might not be as devastating to the Magic as some think. Orlando was one of the league's best road teams the last two seasons, with a total of 54 wins.
In the first round, the Magic beat the 76ers twice in Philadelphia, and they took Game 1 of this series in Boston, 95-90.
``We've been a pretty good road team,'' said coach Stan Van Gundy. ``We won during the regular season, and we won in the playoffs on the road. Confidence won't be a problem.''
Targeting improvement
Even though their outside shooting has been off in the playoffs, the Magic plan to keep firing 3-pointers.
They set a franchise record for 3-pointers made this season with 817, second in the league to the Knicks (823). They shot 38.1 percent in the regular season, but they're down to 34.4 percent in the postseason after Sunday night's 5-for-27 effort.
``We're getting good looks,'' said Alston, who was 1 of 6 from outside the arc. ``You never want to turn down good shots. We should continue to make them, and force them not to double down on Dwight [Howard] so much.''
Shining example
Celtics managing partner Robert Epstein made some new friends prior to Game 4. Surrounded by Magic fans, Epstein was asked to show them his NBA championship ring. He proudly and happily obliged, even letting one woman try it on.
