The Orlando Magic may have had their lengthy winning streak come to an end their last time out, but they still have one intact over the Miami Heat.
The Magic look to bounce back from a loss to the defending champions as they try to win their 11th straight game over the Heat on Saturday. After surging to the top of the Eastern Conference on the heels of a seven-game winning streak, Orlando (33-9) looked flat in Thursday's 90-80 loss to Boston. The Magic fell from atop the East and missed a chance to remain tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the league's best record.
"We know we're good even though we lost the game," Orlando guard Jameer Nelson said. "We want to get to where (the Celtics) are, and that's playing championship basketball."
The Magic had been playing championship-caliber basketball lately, but didn't get in rhythm against Boston. They shot 38.2 percent from the floor, made 7-of-22 from 3-point range and were held to a season low in points.
In the previous six games, Orlando averaged 114.3 points while shooting 49.8 percent from the field and 52.8 percent from beyond the arc, averaging 14.0 3-pointers.
The Magic have not lost consecutive games since starting the season 0-2, and have a good opportunity to get back in the win column on Saturday.
They've won 10 straight over the Heat (22-19) by an average of 14.4 points since a 110-100 loss on Feb. 15, 2006.
Orlando beat Miami 86-76 on Jan. 2 in the only meeting this season despite shooting 38.2 percent from the floor and 8-for-27 from 3-point range. It was the fewest points the Magic have had in a win all season.
Dwight Howard had 15 points and 15 rebounds against the Heat three weeks ago, and is averaging 18.1 points and 14.8 boards during Orlando's winning streak against them.
Howard, who became the first player in league history to receive 3 million votes as he was selected to his third All-Star game on Thursday, has been held to a combined 25 points over the last two games.
The Heat's most recent game also came against Boston and they didn't fare any better, losing 98-83 on Wednesday. Miami trailed 29-10 after the first quarter and fell to 0-10 when scoring fewer than 88 points.
"I'm not sure I recognized what team was out there," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We were doing things that I hadn't seen us do this season."
Dwyane Wade, named to his fifth All-Star game on Thursday, finished with 25 points against the Celtics. The Heat are 13-4 when Wade, leading the league with 28.8 points per game, scores more than 30 and are 9-15 when he doesn't.
Although his team has had no luck versus the Magic lately, Wade has had no trouble scoring against them.
He had 33 points in this season's meeting and is averaging 34.6 points on 57.4 percent shooting during the losing streak. He has played in just five of those games, though, as he has missed time due to various injuries.
While Wade is healthy and has played in every game this season after missing 31 in 2007-08, teammate Shawn Marion is questionable for this contest.
Marion, who has been bothered by a sore left groin, was limited to two points in eight minutes on Wednesday. He was averaging 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in his previous three games.
