Orlando Magic Getting Inside 2009-09-19

Orlando Magic Getting Inside 2009-09-19The start of training camp is still more than a week away, but judging by the turnout at the Magic's practice facility recently, that camp already has begun.

Except for centers Dwight Howard and Marcin Gortat, almost everyone else has been there working on their games, getting in shape, making sure they are ready when camp begins.

Gortat has been in his native Poland, playing for his national team at Eurobasket Championships. After six games, Poland was eliminated from the tournament recently.

Howard, who spent the summer traveling the world doing promotional appearances for both the league and his marketing partners, has been in Los Angeles this week, first filming another cameo movie appearance and then doing a promotional spot for TNT.

Vince Carter, Jameer Nelson, Brandon Bass, Mickael Pietrus and Rashard Lewis are in Orlando, playing together with hopes of another good season.

The Magic, who lost to the Lakers in the NBA Finals last season, have changed the team chemistry with some risky moves this summer. They said goodbye to key player Hedo Turkoglu and replaced him with Carter, two players with dramatically different styles.

Nelson, the starting point guard and one of the team captains, has shown no signs of a problem stemming from shoulder surgery, which caused him to miss the second half of last season. He returned at the Finals, but looked rusty.
