Orlando Magic Getting Inside 2009-10-29

Orlando Magic Getting Inside 2009-10-29Courtney Lee won't have to wait very long to try and get some revenge for the trade that almost broke his heart this summer.

The Magic traded Lee, a promising rookie, to New Jersey, along with Tony Battie and Rafer Alston, to land Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson. The Nets play the Magic Friday night in New Jersey.

Although Carter and Anderson are thrilled to be in Orlando, Lee said this summer that he hopes to make the Magic sorry they made the decision to trade him. He and Magic center Dwight Howard had developed a close friendship in their only year together, and he was stunned at the trade.

The Magic repeatedly told Lee that he figured in their future plans before they pulled out the rug from under him. The Magic are challenging for their first NBA title. The Nets are starting a rebuilding project that is likely to take several years before they become serious contenders.

The Magic are coming off a convincing, opening night victory over Philadelphia. The Nets lost on opening night to the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves. Lee scored just five points and made only two of 11 shots.

The Magic are starting a three-game road trip that also will stop in Toronto, where they will see forward Hedo Turkoglu, who left as a free agent this summer. Turkoglu had hoped to stay in Orlando, but the Magic did not offer him a competitive contract. He, like Lee, will be fired up to show the Magic what they missed.

MAGIC 120, SIXERS 106: The Magic opened the regular season Wednesday night with an overpowering victory, proving that their success in the preseason schedule was no illusion. The Magic were the only NBA team to win all their preseason games this month. They used a well-balanced attack to maul the Sixers, getting six players in double figure scoring. Dwight Howard had 21 points and 15 rebounds.
