Redick showed in the Magic's victory at Toronto on Sunday that there is no reason for Carter to rush back prematurely. He scored a career-high 27 points with Carter watching from the sideline.

Redick has struggled to carve his niche in the NBA after a great college career, but he has worked hard on improving all aspects of his game. He came into the league known for his shooting, but he has shown a steady improvement with his defense, ballhandling and even his rebounding.

General manager Otis Smith has remained adamant about Redick's future value, particularly with center Dwight Howard needing to be surrounded by good shooters.

Redick hit 8 of 14 shots, grabbed six rebounds and added five assists in a career-high 45 minutes against the Raptors.

He is expected to serve this season as a backup to Carter, and he sure came in handy after Carter went down, looking more than competent as a starter.
