Orlando Magic Getting Inside 2008-04-30
It doesn't really matter what happens from here. The season will be considered a huge success.

The Magic advanced into the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1996 by beating the Toronto Raptors, 4-1, in their first-round series.

The Magic will play the winner of the Detroit-Philadelphia series. The Magic might not start for another week, giving them enough rest to get rusty.

The accomplishment comes on the heels of a successful season that included the Magic's first division title and first 50-win regular season in 12 years.

It also comes in the first season under coach Stan Van Gundy. And with center Dwight Howard in place, the Magic looks as if it can be a contender for many years to come.

Add in the fact that the new arena is expected to open in 2010, and it's easy to see why the Magic front office was beaming with pride Monday night.

MAGIC 102, RAPTORS 92: Dwight Howard dominated again around the basket, proving too much for the out-manned Raptors. The Magic became the first team to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs.

The Magic won the series, 4-1, reaching the second round for the first time since 1996. Howard had 21 points and 21 rebounds to lead the charge.

Jameer Nelson had 19 points. Hedo Turkoglu had 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Rashard Lewis had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Magic fell behind early, trailing through much of the first two periods, but took control midway in the third period and never lost its focus.

The Magic never trailed in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 13 points. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 16 points and nine rebounds, but he never had a chance inside against the strength of Howard.
