Orlando Magic Notes, Quotes 2009-10-08

Orlando Magic Notes, Quotes 2009-10-08--Newly acquired G Vince Carter learned quickly that coach Stan Van Gundy doesn't play favorites when it comes to his often biting criticism. Even the stars catch his ire. Carter may be a seven-time All-Star and the team's biggest off-season acquisition, but he incurred the wrath of Van Gundy in just the second day of training camp when he let down defensively.

"He (Carter) did not play well defensively today. He didn't do a good job out there. He's capable of doing a lot better," Van Gundy told the assembled media after a morning practice. "As a matter of fact, we'll talk to him about that."

Van Gundy was particularly upset when Carter fell asleep on one defensive possession, allowing J.J. Redick to catch and score on a back-door play.

--Reaching the NBA Finals certainly has its benefits for a franchise. Riding the enthusiasm of last season's success, the Magic have sold more than 4,700 new seasons tickets, which tops the NBA. The Magic are 200 season tickets short of reaching the cap of 13,000, which is where they will stop sales in order to still have tickets available for single-game purchase on game nights. The Amway Arena holds just over 17,000 seats.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "No, I'm not surprised (about Van Gundy's criticism). You can have 12 turnovers (and nothing is said) with him, but you let one guy go back door, and get caught looking, he'll let you have it. I won't make that mistake again." -- G Vince Carter.
