Orlando Magic Notes, Quotes 2009-10-31

Orlando Magic Notes, Quotes 2009-10-31--A few members of the Magic traveling party used the trip to New Jersey to catch Game 2 of the World Series Thursday night. Among those who watched the Yankees/Phillies game at Yankee Stadium was Magic general manager Otis Smith. Jameer Nelson, who was wearing a Phillies cap early on this road trip, watched the game from his hotel room.

--Magic television play-by-play man David Steele missed Friday night's game because he was attending his father's induction into the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences alumni Hall of Fame.

"Some things are more important than a basketball game," said Steele.

--Several Magic players said they watched the Lakers earlier this week receive their NBA Championship rings before they opened the season against the Clippers. The Magic lost in the Finals to the Lakers, and it still bothers people like Dwight Howard.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I was getting ready to sit back and enjoy a great performance." -- Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy, referring to Vince Carter, who had 16 points in 15 minutes before leaving with a sprained left ankle.
