--Assistant coach Patrick Ewing has generated the most talk this summer after he was snubbed by the Knicks, first for an interview before they hired Mike D'Antoni. Then after D'Antoni said Ewing might be considered for a position as an assistant, he never called, which was a disappointment for Ewing. Ewing has been very visible at the NBA Pre-Draft Camp because his son, Patrick Ewing, Jr. has been playing.
--The Magic believe that the presence of Dwight Howard, emerging as the premier big man in basketball, will help them attract free agents this summer, which is why they aren't too worried about the free agents they may lose. Their core players -- Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson -- are all are locked up for several years. The Magic also are expected to be in their new arena for the start of the 2010-11 season, which also should make this a nice place to play at the turn of the decade.
--The Magic will be bringing in draft prospects for personal interviews next week. Among those will be forwards Joey Dorsey (Memphis) and D.J. White (Indiana), along with shooting guard Courtney Lee (Western Kentucky).
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Losing to the Pistons still bothers me. I think it still bothers everyone on our team." -- Maurice Evans, when he stopped by the NBA Pre-Draft Camp.
