--The drafting of Courtney Lee really says a lot about what the Magic really think of J.J. Redick, their first-round pick two years ago. Redick hardly has played despite being the No. 11 pick that year after being one of the greatest shooters in college basketball history at Duke. Lee plays the same position as Redick, but the Magic continued to call the position their biggest need going into the summer. They said they also will explore adding another shooting guard through free agency if they lose Evans.
--As the Magic go into free agency, they will not be throwing money around needlessly because of the looming luxury tax. With Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson already signed long-term, they also know that next summer Hedo Turkoglu will be looking for a big-money contract as a free agent. --The Magic still are glowing over their immediate future, and it is more than just the team they are building. It's the building, too. The city has broken ground on a new downtown arena that should be ready for the 2010-11 season. It is just a couple of blocks from their current Amway Arena.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I personally hope this issue about being traded is finally laid to rest." -- Magic guard J.J. Redick.
