Orlando Magic Roster Report 2008-12-09

Orlando Magic Roster Report 2008-12-09
ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Anthony Johnson, Shooting guard J.J. Redick, Small forward Hedo Turkoglu, Power forward Rashard Lewis, Center Dwight Howard. Bench -- C/F Tony Battie, G Courtney Lee, F Brian Cook.

PLAYER NOTES:

--F Jeremy Richardson was waived over the weekend, just a few days before his contract would have been guaranteed for the season. It left the Magic with 14 on the roster. Richardson had appeared in just one game this season. There is a chance the Magic might re-sign him, if no one else does, to a non-guaranteed contract.

--G J.J. Redick was benched Monday after starting the previous four games in the absence of Mickael Pietrus. In his four starts, he scored only a combined 23 points, while making eight of 19 shots. He was replaced by Keith Bogans in the starting role, and rookie Courtney Lee was used as the second shooting guard.

--F Brian Cook, who had played in only six games this season, was a surprising contributor to Monday's victory. Cook, who formerly played for the Lakers, sparked the Magic with some inspired second half play, including a big 3-pointer late in the game. It was just his fourth field goal of the season.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--C Marcin Gortat, one of the backup centers, is on the bench with a sprained ankle, sustained Wednesday night against Minnesota.

--G Mickael Pietrus tore a ligament in his left thumb last week. He is expected to be out for another three weeks.

--G Mike Wilks (torn ACL) is out for the season, recovering from surgery on his right knee. Wilks had to wait almost a month after the injury to have surgery because of the swelling.
