Orlando Magic Roster Report 2009-09-10

Orlando Magic Roster Report 2009-09-10PLAYER NEWS:

--G Jason Williams, who did not play basketball during the 2008-09 season, signed a one-year contract with the Magic. Williams has averaged 11.4 points and 6.3 assists per game in his 10-year career.

--C Marcin Gortat, who is from Poland, will be playing with his national team this summer in the European Championships. He also said that he will be wearing Vince Carter Nike shoes this season, switching from the Reeboks he wore last season. Gortat got in hot water with Reebok during the playoffs last spring when he refused to cover up the Nike/Michael Jordan tattoo on his leg after they asked him. They had been providing him free shoes, but they dropped that arrangement this summer. He quickly moved to Nike.

--G J.J. Redick has spent considerable time in Orlando this summer, working out in the weight room and on the court at the Magic's practice facility. With Courtney Lee gone to New Jersey, Redick is expected to become the backup to Vince Carter, although that could change if G/F Mickael Pietrus moves back to shooting guard.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--G Jameer Nelson (right labrum surgery) has been continuing his rehab this summer from the surgery that kept him out through the second half of the season. Although he returned for the NBA Finals, he was far from 100 percent ready to play. He has been working out in Philadelphia and in Orlando and expects to be back to form by training camp.

DRAFT PICKS: None. The Magic showed very little interest in getting involved in the 2009 Draft, believing it was one of the weakest in years.
