Orlando Magic Roster Report 2009-09-18

Orlando Magic Roster Report 2009-09-18PLAYER NEWS:

--F Matt Barnes may not even know it yet, but he has being tabbed to replace Hedo Turkoglu, not necessarily as a starter, but as the guy who will be inbounding the ball in key, late-game situations. Barnes was signed as a free agent from Phoenix. Van Gundy loved Turkoglu in that role because of his size and decision-making ability. Barnes is three inches shorter, but he is known as a heady player.

--C Marcin Gortat had a successful stint on the Polish National Team that just finished at the EuroBasket Tournament. Although Poland was eliminated with a 2-4 record, Gortat averaged 34.5 minutes per game and had three double-doubles, including a final game of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

--G Vince Carter may be new to the Magic this season, but he already had a home in Orlando, where he has lived the past few years when he was playing in New Jersey. Carter still has family in Daytona Beach, where he grew up, and he expects to be seeing many of his friends at the games this season.

--G Jameer Nelson (right labrum surgery) continued his rehab this summer from the surgery that kept him out through the second half of the season. He has looked 100 percent recovered in recent workouts.

DRAFT PICKS: None. The Magic showed very little interest in getting involved in the 2009 Draft, believing it was one of the weakest in years.
