ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Jameer Nelson, Shooting guard Vince Carter, Small forward Mickael Pietrus, Power forward Ryan Anderson, Center Dwight Howard. Bench -- Guard J.J. Redick, Guard Jason Williams, Forward Matt Barnes, Forward Brandon Bass, Center Marcin Gortat. PLAYER NOTES: --F Ryan Anderson, who started at power forward in place of Rashard Lewis, made the most of his opportunity in the opener. Anderson started 30 games last season as a rookie in New Jersey, and he was thrilled to get the starting spot for the Magic. He had 16 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes. He also hit four of seven from three-point range.
"It was a good start for me," he said.
--C Dwight Howard is so proud of his Twitter following that he rewarded his one millionth follower with a trip for two to Orlando to watch him play on opening night. Howard, who loves the social media network, flew Stephanie Fisher and her son Lawrence from Sacramento to Orlando Wednesday and provided courtside seats to the game and hotel accommodations.
--G Jason Williams sure didn't look like he had taken a year off from basketball. The backup point guard looked better than ever in the opener when he hit four of his five shots, including three of his four three-point attempts for 15 points and five assists. He looks good enough to challenge Jameer Nelson for the starting spot, but that won't happen because Williams probably can't handle major minutes at age 33 and with his balky knees.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--C Adonal Foyle (right knee) had surgery last week and is expected to be out for at least another four weeks. He has begun rehab, but there will be no rush as long as starter Dwight Howard and backup Marcin Gortat stay healthy.
