Alex Mackeigan of Guelph will be heading to Orlando, Fla., tomorrow to compete in Friday's Junior NBA skills competition final.

The contest involves competing in a series of timed fundamental Basketball skills tests, which include passing, dribbling and shooting. Overall, the event involves more than 100,000 participants throughout Canada and the United States.

Mackeigan's journey to the event in Orlando started when he won the boys' 11-12 division at the Guelph CYO skills competition in February.

After that, he won his class in a provincial event at the Toronto Raptors practice gym at the Air Canada Centre March 29. There, he competed against players from across Ontario who had won their local events.

Those who participated in Toronto were given prizes, including two tickets to a Raptors game. In winning that event, Mackeigan was recognized at halftime of a Raptors game in a ceremony on the floor of the Air Canada Centre along with Raptors star Chris Bosh.

The Toronto event was one of 35 regional competitions held across North America. The top four overall in each age category from the regionals won all-expense-paid trips to Orlando from the Junior NBA office in Atlanta. They will compete in the Orlando Magic's practice gym and will stay at the Hard Rock Cafe Resort at Universal Studios.

The final competition is hosted by NBA legend Bob Lanier and Magic players Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw
